13633057If you all haven’t guessed it by now, I heart Dragon Age, in all it’s forms.  Video game, tabletop RPG, books, and now graphic novels.

The Silent Grove is the first in a Dragon Age graphic novel series based on the game that first started out its life as comic books, and is now being republished in this format.

So to sum up the plot,  Alistair from Dragon Age: Origins joins up with Isabella and Varric from Dragon Age 2 in the first installation of a new side story where the famous Flemeth and equally infamous daughters play a key role. We learn more about the history of dragons, more of Flemeth and her daughters, as well as some interesting hints as to the fate of Alistair’s father King Maric.

I think it takes place before the events of Dragon Age 2 for two reasons.  1: It makes no reference to the cataclysmic events that occurred at the end of the game, and 2: Alistair is king.  That would have ony come about after certain choices that you make during the course of playing DA:O.

Long story short, I really enjoyed it but for one tiny thing.  There is absolutely no reference to your character from the first or second game.  Granted, I understand Alistair making no reference to the Hero of Fereldan because there are a million and one ways for DA:O to end.  Alistair could become king, a beggar, a Grey Warden, or he could die.  He could marry the Warden or Anora, Loghain could live or die, the warden could live or die, and any combination thereof.

So no, not surprising that Alistair makes no reference, although a tad disappointing.

All in all, can’t wait for the next one.  Looking forward to seeing what happens to this new team of Alistair, Isabella, and Varric.

Coming up, more dragons!  Dungeons and Dragons Volume 1: Shadowplague.
