90578Now this is the Raccoon City I know and love.

Welcome ladies and gents to the third book in the Resident Evil series, City of the Dead, based on the Resident Evil 2 game.

I actually read City of the Dead back in December 2012, but with all my Ja No Read Mo postings, I’ve only found time to give this book it’s place in the spotlight now.

Here in city of the Dead, we are introduced once more to Claire Redfield sister to Chris Redfield, and Leon Kennedy.  Both arrive in Raccoon City for their own reasons, Leon because he is a rookie cop starting the beat, and Claire in search of her brother.  But what they find is more than either one of them is willing to handle.

Raccoon city is full of the living dead.  Shuffling zombies searching mindlessly for new, fresh flesh to devour.  The entire book is the pair of them evading the dead and trying to save those few who they find living in the catacombs beneath the city after the Umbrella Corporation mucks up yet another experiment.

You know, you think they would learn eventually.  Viruses that turn people into zombies is a BAD thing!  Stop experimenting already!

Still slogging through the pre-Ja No Read Mo 2013 backlog, we look at Trapped by Kevin Hearne.

13536649After twelve years of secret training, Atticus O’Sullivan is finally ready to bind his apprentice, Granuaile, to the earth and double the number of Druids in the world. But on the eve of the ritual, the world that thought he was dead abruptly discovers that he’s still alive, and they would much rather he return to the grave.

Having no other choice, Atticus, his trusted Irish wolfhound, Oberon, and Granuaile travel to the base of Mount Olympus, where the Roman god Bacchus is anxious to take his sworn revenge—but he’ll have to get in line behind an ancient vampire, a band of dark elves, and an old god of mischief, who all seem to have KILL THE DRUID at the top of their to-do lists.
