13125234So here we are with Twice Tempted, the second in the Night Prince series by Jeanine Frost and while not as good as her Night Huntress series, so far Night Prince is holding it’s own.

Last time, we were introduced once again to the infamous vampire Vlad, the man-turned-vampire and inspiration for Dracula.  We originally saw him as a secondary character in the Night Huntress novels, but Once Burned was the debut of his story, and the first time we ever met the leading lady Leila.

After being electrocuted at a young age, Leila can’t touch anyone without sending a deadly charge through their body.  Or at last no one until she met Vlad.

Dragged into a vampire war against her will, used and abused for her abilities, Leila turned to Vlad for comfort, which was a really stupid thing considering the guy is as compassionate as a rock, but somehow they made it work.  They took down the big bad that was hunting them and things looked good for our human/vampire couple.

At least until one of Vlad’s people turned traitor.

Here in Twice Tempted Leila, feeling shut off from Vlad, leaves him.  And when she’s attacked, presumed dead, and STILL hunted, she needs to decide if Vlad is betraying her or someone else closer to home.

In the end of course, it was neither.  It was actually someone I never thought of until the end when just enough pieces fall into place and you can put them together on your own.  It was an interesting twist, and gives yet more evidence to the old saying of “hell hath no fury as a woman scorned.”  Toss in some black blood magic, the return of an old enemy and the ultimate choice for Leila, and Twice Tempted is quite the worthwhile read.

Next up, something that has been on my want list for a long, long time and i was finally able to pick it up.  It’s the first book the in the Dragon Age novel series, Dragon Age: The Stolen Throne.

6227080After his mother, the beloved Rebel Queen, is betrayed and murdered by her own faithless lords, young Maric becomes the leader of a rebel army attempting to free his nation from the control of a foreign tyrant.

His countrymen live in fear; his commanders consider him untested; and his only allies are Loghain, a brash young outlaw who saved his life, and Rowan, the beautiful warrior maiden promised to him since birth. Surrounded by spies and traitors, Maric must find a way to not only survive but achieve his ultimate destiny: Ferelden’s freedom and the return of his line to the stolen throne.
