13482355Every time I read one of the Nikki Heat books it feels so bloody weird.  I keep seeing the characters from the show Castle when I read them, and this one was a real freaking tear jerker.

For those who follow the show (spoilers if you don’t) we all know how the beloved Captain Montgomery is gunned down at the end of season three.  Frozen Heat is the parallel of the shows that follow the winding road of mystery and murder that lies behind the death of Kate Becket’s mother in the show.

Nikki Heat finds a body stuffed into a trunk that had belonged to her mother during the coldest winter New York has seen for a while, and during the course of the investigation, the precinct captain is implicated as a dirty cop and killed in his car.  Much like Montgomery in the show.

Yeah, kinda meta.

Frozen Heat, like all the other books in the Nikki Heat series is a must for the Castle fans.  It’s really freaking hard to write reviews about these books because I have to separate the book characters from the ones on TV and they all mesh just so perfectly it’s damn near impossible to do.  So I think I’ll leave it here for now, and we’ll just move on to the next one.

Blackstaff, first of the Wizards books in my beloved Forgotten Realms is up next.
