darkerDon’t judge me.  This is what idle curiosity and boredom coupled with internet access at work and a site to read free books online does.  I.  Read.  I read stuff I wouldn’t normally spend money on, and the second in the Fifty Shades trilogy, Fifty Shades Darker fits the bill perfectly.

Though it was a wee bit awkward reading it at work I’ll grant you…

Anyways, I stand by what I said in my review for Fifty Shades of Grey.  The writing is atrocious.  Whatever editor allowed this to go to print needs to be drug out into the street and shot.  Fifty synonyms (heh) a page -and each page filled with grammar errors- does not a book make.

Or wouldn’t under normal circumstances…

But aside from that, it was good.  Ana basically comes back to Christian and together they open up to each other and Ana even starts to uncover the ‘darker’ side of her sexuality and branches out to incorporating some of the ‘milder’ elements of BDSM into her sex life.

Only hiccup in the beginning is that she was basically blamed for the break up.  ‘Oh you could have used the safeword’.  Safeword or not, she told him to go as far as he needed, and it was too much for her.  She left because she felt she could not be what he needed because she was not comfortable with the extents he was willing to go to.

So this I feel is more a story of sexual awakening than anything else, and while I kinda have to laugh at how the two ended the story, I can see why so many women swooned over this when it first came out.

Aaaaand since I don’t like leaving a trilogy unfinished if I can help it, we’re going to hit up Fifty Shades Freed real quick and get that out of the way.

freedWhen unworldly student Anastasia Steele first encountered the driven and dazzling young entrepreneur Christian Grey it sparked a sensual affair that changed both of their lives irrevocably. Shocked, intrigued, and, ultimately, repelled by Christian’s singular erotic tastes, Ana demands a deeper commitment. Determined to keep her, Christian agrees.

Now, Ana and Christian have it all—love, passion, intimacy, wealth, and a world of possibilities for their future. But Ana knows that loving her Fifty Shades will not be easy, and that being together will pose challenges that neither of them would anticipate. Ana must somehow learn to share Christian’s opulent lifestyle without sacrificing her own identity. And Christian must overcome his compulsion to control as he wrestles with the demons of a tormented past.

Just when it seems that their strength together will eclipse any obstacle, misfortune, malice, and fate conspire to make Ana’s deepest fears turn to reality.
