716355The Druidhome trilogy comes to an unexpected and quite frankly shocking ending here in Druid Queen.

It’s god against goddess, high priest against high druid, sister against sister in a clash of magic, faith, and avatars.

Talos has teemed up with Helm to try and take over the Moonshaes, depose the Earthmother goddess and open the islands up to all the gods of Faerun to garner new worshippers.  But the devotion of a small band of heroes thwarts their efforts to corrupt the lands they all hold so dear.

Princess Deirdre is growing in power and maliciousness, thinking herself the destined ruler of the isles, a notion her sister puts a permanent end to. Their High Queen mother realizes her devotion to her family has put her faith at risk and must make a choice: continue on as queen and lose her goddess forever, or give up her mantle and return to the woodland places where she most feels at home.

An unlikely alliance of humans, firbolg giant kin, an elf, and a fairie dragon are the ones who put down the mountain sized avatar of Talos when it’s unleashed on the world.  And while at the end the Moonshaes are safe once more, there are many wounds that need healing before they can move on with their lives.

Speaking of moving on with lives…we’re moving on with the next in the Immortals after Dark, Demon from the Dark by Kresley Cole.  I’m sensing a theme here, how about you?
