18144149Took a bit to figure out where this particular story fit into the Tudor/York timeline, but once I figured that out it was pretty much smooth sailing.

It turns out the story of the White Princess is actually the story of Henry VIII’s parents and his very early childhood.  The Tudors have finally overthrown the Yorks, and a nervous King Henry VII tries to solidify his position on his stolen throne with the marriage to a York princess and the suppression of all things York.  Most expressly the rumors of the boys in the Tower -brothers to his wife, rightful heirs to the throne- still being alive and well years after disappearing from the Tower of London where they were imprisoned.

But unbeknownst to him, his York princess wife Kathleen and her mother still cling in secret to the old ways of magic and placed a curse on the ones who would kill her little brother princes; that the firstborn son and grandson would die, leaving the family line to die out within two generation.  And funny enough, her husband kills a man claiming to be her brother and the line of King Henry VII ends with him.

Funny how that all works out huh?

Overall the White Princess was quite good. You really feel for poor Kathleen York, in love with a dead man, married to his murderer, ruled by his overbearing mother and with her family tree being pared away one member at a time.  Such a sad story, and sadder ending for a young girl who seems to be so sweet.

From kings and princesses to angels and demons now.  Possession by J.R. Ward is next.
