154105Very appropriate title for this one.

John and Suzie embark on a time-hopping journey, back to the beginning of the Nightside to try and find some form of weakness to take out mummy dearest in their time, or else take her out entirely in the past before she can do any harm in the future.

Honestly, this some seemed a little bit like filler, pointless and not really accomplishing anything.  They leapfrog back through time, witnessing some events, causing others, find mummy, and return back to their own time with nothing really to show for it.

The only saving grace to this just what I said before about John and Suzie witnessing/causing some events of their time.  We get to see the secrets behind them as well. Like how Herne the Hunter came to live in the city when he’s a creature of the forest, how Merlin really lost his heart, how the creature known as the Lamentation was born, and most importantly, how the Nightside was created.

We also see some progress in John and Suzie’s relationship.  Not much, but we can all see where it’ll eventually end now.

But aside from this little stumble, I’m still looking forward to the rest of the series….next year…

Yeah I’ve decided this is going to be the Year of the Realms again.  Only this time Realms books are all I will be reading this year.  I’ll allow myself one non-Realms book a month if I need a break, but hopefully I’ll be able to stick to this and wipe out my Realms backlog finally. So with that being said, we’re going to start off Year of the Realms (better late than never!) with The City of Ravens.

The City of Ravens
For the first time, Jack Ravenwild’s designs exceed his talents. His ambitions plunge him into the middle of a plot to destroy the city, a noble quest to find a lost hoard, and a conspiracy to seize the reins of power through the nobility’s Game of Masks. Worse yet, Jack must choose between a life of freedom and saving the city he doesn’t even know he loves.
The Cities
A new series of stand-alone novels, each set in one of the mighty cities of Faerun.
